Scissors are quintessential tool for cropping hair, although electric clippers are fast replacing them because of the ease of handling. Faster and even hair cutting also they can be used by amateur individuals who are not adept at dog hair cutting and grooming. Electric clippers can do a great job at plain body surfaces; however, at curves and narrow area where it is not wise to use clippers, scissors come to rescue. Scissors are extremely useful for shaping and styling hair for dog shows and pet hairstyle competitions. Although dog grooming scissors are less faster compared to electric clippers, electric clippers are not useful for small puppies as they create vibrations and sound that makes them go berserk and they run away.

Dog's ears, head, nose, eyes, and mouth are muzzled out while grooming from electric clipper, this is especially true in breeds like poodles, Schnauzers, and other longhaired dog breeds. These longhaired pets need sharp and accurate hair scissors for grooming their long hair. Pick scissors with much care that have sharp ends made of rust free stainless metal, which may not break off in the long run.

It is required to look after the maintenance of dog grooming scissors; they are to be washed in hot water mixed with antibacterial solution, allow them to soak for 20-30 minutes.
