Pinholes and Bubbles in Your Adhesive – Where Does the Problem Really Come From?
In polyurethane adhesive production, you often run into these situations:
The formula looks correct.
The process follows strict procedures.
All raw materials meet specifications.
But after curing, the adhesive surface shows pinholes, bubbles, dull gloss, or poor bond strength.
The hidden culprit is often moisture – a factor easy to overlook.

Once trace water enters the polyurethane system, it reacts preferentially with isocyanate and releases CO₂ gas. If these gases cannot escape in time, they form internal bubbles and eventually become surface pinholes, blisters, and other defects.
At the same time, water consumes part of the NCO groups that should participate in crosslinking, which interferes with normal curing.
The result:
More bubbles → surface defects → compromised crosslinking structure → lower adhesion and product stability
For polyurethane systems, the real quality killer is not visible impurities but trace moisture hidden in raw materials.
Remove the water, and you secure the quality.
How Does Powdered Molecular Sieve Solve the "Moisture Problem"?
Unlike traditional drying methods, powdered molecular sieve works as an additive that you can mix directly into polyurethanes, polyureas, coatings, and other material systems.
Its dehydration principle relies on the regular micropore structure inside the molecular sieve. (Diagram of pore structure can be placed here)
The molecular sieve has selective adsorption capacity: its pore channels (≥0.3 nm) trap water molecules (0.29 nm) and lock free moisture inside the micropores.
In simple terms:
Moisture enters the system → powdered molecular sieve captures water molecules → water gets adsorbed into the sieve’s pores → fewer side reactions with water → less CO₂ generation → lower risk of pinholes and bubbles on the adhesive surface

How Does a 3% Addition Level Boost the Polyurethane System?
In polyurethane production, adding just 3% of Xintao activated molecular sieve powder – far below the industry’s typical 5%–10% – can stably control the system’s moisture content to below 0.01%.
Thanks to its selective adsorption, these micron‑sized powder particles act like they have “smart recognition,” precisely capturing water molecules and firmly holding them inside the pores, completely blocking any contact between NCO and water. No water means no CO₂; no CO₂ means no bubbles.
More importantly, NCO groups remain intact and fully available for crosslinking with polyols. After curing, the adhesive surface turns smooth and dense, free from pinholes and bubbles. Bond strength and durability both improve, pot life becomes more flexible, and you gain a smoother production rhythm.
One single addition brings multiple benefits.
Additionally, Xintao powder molecular sieve can also adsorb odorous molecules like CO₂ and H₂S, giving your product extra environmental points.
Choose Xintao molecular sieve powder– less addition, lower raw material consumption, and fewer scrapped batches.
Suitable Applications
Polyurethane adhesives, sealants, structural adhesives, two‑part epoxy adhesives, construction adhesives, new‑energy vehicle body adhesives, automotive interior adhesives, honeycomb aluminum panel adhesives, paints and coatings, plastic tracks, rubber composites, insulating glass strips, and more.
Powder Fineness – Another Key Factor to Consider
For powder materials added directly into adhesive systems, adsorption performance is not the only metric.
Particle size also significantly affects real‑world results.
Coarser powder disperses more slowly and may impact the surface smoothness of the finished polyurethane product. Uneven particle size distribution can also lead to poor mixing uniformity in the adhesive.
Therefore, when choosing zeolite powder, you should also look at:
Particle size distribution
Powder fineness
Sieve residue
Dispersibility
Product moisture content
Storage stability
Xintao Technology strictly controls particle size and sieve residue through advanced powder processing, meeting the diverse needs of polyurethane, coating, and polymer material systems.
Powder fineness directly affects dispersion in the system. A stable particle size distribution helps the molecular sieve blend more uniformly into adhesives and polymer systems, providing a solid foundation for consistent adsorption performance.
