ToggleClassification and Application of Silica Gel Desiccant
Introduction
Silica gel as a desiccant features many pores and a huge surface area. Its drying principle involves removing water molecules from moist substances through adsorption. That is, particles on the solid surface attract water molecules in various gases and liquids and adsorb them onto the surface of solid substances. It is insoluble in water and any solvent, non-toxic and tasteless, chemically stable, and does not react with any substance except strong alkali and hydrofluoric acid. The chemical composition and physical structure of silica gel beads give it many characteristics that are difficult for other similar materials to replace, such as high adsorption performance, good thermal stability, stable chemical properties, and high mechanical strength.
Classification
White Silica Gel
This product is a white translucent glass, which cannot be used as an indicator. It is mainly used as a physical desiccant with adsorption.
Blue Silica Gel
This product is a blue, translucent glass with a highly porous structure. High-purity blue gel silica is widely used in drying and absorbing water. During the process of absorbing water, its color changes from blue to pink. Users can mix it with general fine-pored spherical silica gel as an indicator to show the water saturation level of the desiccant.
Orange Silica Gel
This product has the appearance of orange translucent glass particles, has strong adsorption capacity and its appearance color will change significantly with the increase of water absorption during moisture absorption. After absorbing water, it will change from orange to green, and when they become dark green, the product needs to be replaced or recycled. Since orange gel silica beads have a strong moisture absorption capacity, it should be stored in a dry environment, such as with shelves or pallets between the ground and the goods.
Alumina Silica gel
This product with the appearance of white and milky white particles, has better adsorption and separation performance than ordinary silica-alumina gel. It is mainly used in catalysts and catalyst carriers, dryers, liquid adsorbents and gas separation in the petrochemical industry. In addition, It is also used to separate light hydrocarbons from natural gas, reduce the dew point of hydrocarbons, and produce natural gas gasoline. At the same time, natural gas is also dried. It can also be used as a common desiccant, catalyst and its carrier and also used as a pressure swing adsorption separator, especially suitable for high temperature temperature swing adsorption separator.
Application
Silica gel desiccant are mainly used for drying and dehumidification. In addition, it is also widely used in natural gas drying, air compression systems, electronic equipment, oil and gas recovery hydrophobicity, catalyst carriers, pressure swing adsorption equipment, etc.
