Random packing in distillation column is suitable for towers of any size and has many advantages. Random packing is cheap and the same amount of random packing is cheaper than structured packing.
Random Tower packing materials are easy to install and do not need to be replaced as frequently as structured packing. When loading and disassembling, they need to be stacked piece by piece, which increases the working time. Some towers with narrower designs, or towers with conical shapes instead of cylindrical shapes, are more suitable for random packing in distillation column.
Plastic random packing
The materials of plastic random packings mainly include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Polypropylene is generally used in China. The plastic random packing has good corrosion resistance, and can withstand the corrosion of general inorganic acids, alkalis and organic solvents. It has good temperature resistance and can be used below 100 ° C for a long time.
Plastic random packings are lightweight, inexpensive, have good toughness, impact resistance, and are not brittle. They can be made into thin-walled structures. Its large flux and reduced pressure are mostly used in absorption, desorption, extraction, dust removal and other devices. The disadvantage of plastic random packing is poor surface wettability, but the surface wettability can be improved by proper surface treatment.
Ceramic random packing
Ceramic random tower packing have good corrosion resistance and heat resistance. Ceramic random packing are cheap, have good surface wetting properties, and are brittle and fragile. It is widely used in gas absorption, gas washing, liquid extraction and other processes.
Ceramic random packing in distillation column are made of inert clay material. Through compression molding, their surface will not react with other materials, and they have strong characteristics and can resist acid and alkali corrosion. Especially in terms of temperature resistance, ceramic media is best used for sulfuric acid absorption towers and similar corrosive material filtration treatments.
Metal random packing in distillation column
Metal random packings can be made from a variety of materials. Corrosion is a major consideration when selecting distillation column packing. Carbon steel random packings are low in cost and have good surface wetting properties. They should be used preferentially for non-corrosive or low-corrosive systems; stainless steel random packings are highly resistant to corrosion, and are generally resistant to common systems other than Cl–, but their The cost is high, and the surface wetting performance is poor.
In some special occasions (such as the vacuum distillation process under very low spray density), the surface needs to be treated to obtain good results; titanium, random packings made of special alloy steel and other materials are very expensive, and are generally only used in certain highly corrosive materials.
Generally speaking, metal random packing in distillation column can be made into thin-walled structures with large flux, low gas resistance, and high impact resistance. They can be used under high temperature, high pressure, and high impact strength, and have the widest range of applications.
