Zhou Qi was born in Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province. He joined the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in 1930 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1932. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, he served as a hygienist, regulator, and pharmacist in the Military Medical Office of the 10th Division of the Fourth Red Army, and as a medicinal material section officer in the Ministry of Health of the Red Army. Participated in 1-5 anti-encirclement and suppression campaigns and the Long March. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as a member of the Central Epidemic Prevention Committee, director of Xingcheng Nursing Home of the Air Force, deputy director of the Air Force Health Department of the Shenyang Military Region, deputy director of the Air Force Logistics Department, and deputy chief of staff of the Air Force Tri-Services Command. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of major general.
