Activated Alumina for Hydrogen Peroxide

Activated alumina for hydrogen peroxide is a white spherical high-strength substance, which is insoluble in water and organic solvents such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, and lipids. It is a special adsorbent for the production of hydrogen peroxide by the anthraquinone process. It is non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless. It does not powder or soften in water and alkaline solutions, has high clarity, and has a long service life.

The Applications of Activated Alumina Ball

Adsorb Alkali Solution

After the raffinate is neutralized by the alkali tower (containing potassium carbonate solution), it carries a small amount of potassium carbonate droplets, which enter the white clay bed after precipitation and separation. Because activated alumina adsorbent has a strong adsorption effect, the residual alkali solution is adsorbed, so that the alkalinity of the working solution is reduced from 0.1g/L to below 0.005+g/L, which is suitable for hydrogenation reaction.

Absorb Water

80% of the water carried by the raffinate and the water produced by the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide are absorbed by the concentrated potassium carbonate solution, and a small amount of water is absorbed by the activated alumina catalyst together with the alkali solution. After passing through the white clay bed, the water content in the working solution drops below 3+ml/L, but as the service life increases, the water absorption of alumina ball reaches saturation, that is, the absorption and release maintain a balance, and its water absorption effect will not be obvious.

Decompose Hydrogen Peroxide

When the alkali concentration is appropriate, the alkali tower has the ability to decompose hydrogen peroxide in the raffinate of 60% to 70%, and the activated alumina has the ability to decompose hydrogen peroxide of 20% to 30% due to the adsorption of potassium carbonate solution.

Regenerate Degradation Products

 In different production devices, due to the different composition of degradation products, the role of alumina desiccant is also different. The production of degradation products can cause the loss of expensive anthraquinone, increase production costs, and reduce production capacity. At the same time, due to the increase in the total solid content in the working fluid, the density and viscosity of the working fluid increase, the oxidation and extraction yields decrease, and the system operation is difficult. Some water-soluble degradation products can cause the product appearance to turn yellow and the organic carbon content increases, which not only reduces the product quality, but also increases the difficulty and danger of product refining and concentration.

Purify Hydrogen Peroxide

After washing the surface alkali of activated alumina with pure water,  and treating it with 0.5% to 5% nitric acid solution, activated alumina can purify the residual hydrogen peroxide in the concentration process. The effect is very ideal and it is an important way to save energy and reduce consumption and increase production.

For example, desiccant, fluorine and arsenic removal agent, catalyst carrier, TBC special adsorbent, dechlorination agent, air purification, food preservation, etc.
